Bacterial diseases of Agaricus bisporus in Serbia

 An increase of mushroom production in Serbia contributed to the increased incidence and importance of problems related to mushroom pathology. Apart from the decline in mushroom quality due to a maturation or senescence process, mushroom caps are often colonized by mycopathogenic microorganisms causing growth deformation and decay. From samples of diseased white button mushrooms we isolated bacterial isolates associated with either small creamy or brown spots, with greasy appearance and oozing, or large, sunken and dark brown lesions spread over the diseased pileus. The isolates were selected for further investigation according to their pathogenicity to A. bisporus sporocarp slices. According to the pathogenic and bacteriological characteristics of the isolates, most of them were identified as Pseudomonas agarici Young (1970). The rest of the isolates remained unidentified.
